Sailor Moon Places

When I moved to this area, I was so excited to pass by a metro stop labeled “Crystal City.” Alas, it is nothing at all like the beautiful Crystal Tokyo but it still makes me happy to live nearby.

I wanted to incorporate this dimension of the show into my blog a little bit more.  There are “real life” places like Azabu Juuban but also little cafes and shops they always visit.  Plus, there are “real life” Sailor Moon themed places in Japan that I want to talk about (but haven’t had time to, YET).

Season Episode 9: Series Episode 9 -「うさぎの災難!あわて時計にご用心」 or “Usagi’s Misfortune! Watch Out for the Rushing Clocks.” 

What?  Time warping black-cat clock!

I love this episode ~ in fact, I love how all of the first season incorporates the daily little annoyances and stresses that suck out our energy.  I know they are “filler” and not part of the dramatic story arc about princesses and star soldiers and past-life romances…but they are the things I most relate to haha.

So after Usagi and Ami’s shopping trip, Usagi is gifted a sneaky looking black cat clock that sucks away time and makes you feel rushed. 

Gimme!  

Black Cat Clock ~ this looks the most “accurate” to the clock in the show, but you’d offend Luna with it.  Also, if I’m buying a new alarm clock I’m going to buy the chicken one! So better to get something cute for my real alarm clock (my phone):

What? That beautiful wooden roll-top desk.  I am obsessed with them (also all over the place in Utena).  

Gimme! I knew they’d be pricier than my current crappy $50 Ikea desk, but the smaller ones aren’t so expensive after all!!

I also like this shot of Naru’s room - so enormous.  No one in Tokyo has rooms like that though.  I guess this show implies all the girls are completely loaded (ie living in Azabu etc).

What?   Fluffy pink house slippers with little pompom details.  I actually think it would be easier to buy a set of house slippers and sew on your own pompoms but they DO sell a few like this.  I’m kind of fascinated by the usb *heated* ones haha.

Season Episode 3: Series Episode 3 -「(謎のねむり病, 守れ乙女の恋する心」 or “Mysterious Sleeping Illness, Protect the Girls’ Hearts in Love”

What? Luna Pen/ Transformation Pen/ Disguise Pen.

In the third episode of the anime, we are introduced to the disguise pen. Luna does her magic back-flip and presents Usagi with a transformation pen that allows her to wear whatever she wants. In the manga, Usagi get it herself after kicking around an arcade game. While the use of the pen maybe peaked in the ballroom scene later in Season 1 (or Act 4 of the first manga) and was cleverly replaced with cellphone cameras in PGSM, the pen is still one of the most elusive and desired Sailor Moon collectibles!

Shoe fortune telling works like this apparently: if you flip your shoe in the air and it lands on the head of some random jerk, then you’re destined to marry him.  

I actually own an identical pair to these that my mom bought for me at Macy’s in like 1995 (the brand was Unlisted I think?).  My mom was really sweet about it too.  I had no right to buy an extra pair of dressy-ish shoes and plus, I was a huge brat throughout the 90s and uh, 2000s too. But, she was like “sometimes I just like giving you presents because you can also be a really good girl!” Anyhow, these shoes are linked to that random, nice memory of my mother even more so than Sailor Moon.

Season Episode 38: Series Episode 84 -「ワイズマンの魔手!ちびうさ消滅」 or “Wiseman’s Evil Hand! Chibiusa Disappears”

What? Black Crystal Crown…of doom.  Wise Man tricks Esmeraude into wearing this black crystal crown, promising her a future as Queen.  Sadly, she turns into a dragon and is promptly defeated by our heroes.      

GIMME!  A crown of your own for the days when you feel like the most unwanted, unloved, misunderstood villainess.
